So here I am wasting time on the internet because everything else seems overwhelming. How do people do this? So I thought it would be fun to do a run through on what is really a very laid-back day in the life of Carrie.
So I actually slept in this morning until 7:30 but that was only because I took a shower late last night after I went running so I didn't have to try to sneak one in this morning before the kids woke up. Then off to breakfast to four starving and very grumpy children. Clean the kitchen (milk everywhere, how else do you eat cereal???), get kids dressed, rooms clean, teeth brushed, don't forget meds and vitamins, diapers changed, get school work together, get library books together (because we'll be going there soon) and say bye to my mother-in-law who has been staying with us for the weekend. That's all within 1 1/2 hours. Then off to drop off the kids at school. Next we park and take the two youngest in with me to the school where we help in the book room each Tuesday. Always fun. Let's see how many books we can misplace or color on. Then off to the city library. Amazingly we make it back in time to see my mother-in-law off (she hadn't left yet because she was doing laundry...can I just say how much I love her). Now individual attention for the two youngest, change some laundry loads, clean up more messes made in the last half hour, you'd be amazed, and then off to pick up the kindergartner. Come home, make lunch, clean up forever (now it's applesauce all over), clean kids faces, and put baby to bed. That's where I'm at because the rest is what gets me where I don't feel like moving. Here's where I get to go fold all the laundry that was washed for me, clean up blocks, cars, and movies that were all taken out of the cases sitting on the floor staring at me right now screaming "clean me", help Erica with her homework, empty garbages, pick up all the extra messes I ignored this morning, the ones where the kids "cleaned" their rooms but mostly just shoved things under their beds, into the corners, and in the closet, and clean up my junk pile by the fridge. Hopefully this will be done in 2 hours, and then Jace comes home from school with at least one hour of homework that says "have your parent..." "read 20 minutes with your parent" "spell with your parent" "do flash cards with your parent" I don't remember doing this with my mom, but whatever. Then Becky is coming and bringing my nephews for hair cuts. This is the fun part because I get to talk to someone fun. But of course this is also when Baby wakes up, is hungry, grumpy, and really wants his mommy, but I'll be covered in hair and be ignoring him. So big brother, Kent, will be either tackling him or trying to help him get into the hair all over the floor (which was just mopped...I'll be doing that again too). All the while, my other kids are making unsupervised messes like painting the walls again, or seeing how many things can float in the toilet without sinking. Then as soon as we're done, finish the rest of Jace's homework that surely wasn't done yet because Becky's coming 15 minutes after he gets home, try to get dinner made in 30 minutes that of course needs to be healthy and well balanced and piping hot when hubby gets home because he's "starving". Don't forget to have the house sparkling so that I look like a fabulous wife that has it all together when he gets home. Then I guess book club is tonight which of course I didn't have time to read the book this month, and if I go, that means I will leave Tony alone 3 out of 5 nights this week with the kids (parent teacher conferences, scout stuff, etc.). Lets see if that flies. I very well might not be going. Then come home, clean up whatever mess was left, and sit down for 10 minutes before Tony says, "I'm tired, lets go to bed." My most dreaded statement because that means tomorrow I start again. Whoo! How do people do this?! Tomorrow and Thursday I have even more on my calendar. AHHH! This sounds like a bunch of complaining, which really, it is..but I really do love being a mother. I love every little second. Each silly smile, each messy face, and every spontaneous hug. I just don't know how I can do it all and feel like at the end of the day I gave them each enough attention, or know my house is spotless, or feel like my husband feels loved and pampered. I'm trying, but Gee Whiz! I'm beat!
